How to tell it apart

The mottled petrel or kōrure is a species of seabird and a member of the gadfly petrels. It usually attains 33 to 35 cm (13–14 in) in length with a 74 to 82 cm (29–32 in) wingspan.

Where to find it

Breeding range
PO, IO : islets off Fiordland and in Lake Hauroko (south-west South I.), in Foveaux Strait and around Stewart is., and Snares Is. (south of South I.; New Zealand)
Non-breeding range
Forages to subantarctic and Antarctic waters, south-east Australia; migrates to Bering Sea and subarctic Pacific (north Pacific Ocean)
