BirdUp 1.1.1 — AI species navigation and Field Marks
BirdUp Australia1 min read
A small but meaningful update for anyone who's been using AI identification in the bush.
What's new
- Navigate to species from AI identification. When BirdUp identifies a bird, you can now tap straight through to the full species profile. It's a quicker way to verify the call — compare the photo, the range, and the field notes side by side before logging it.
- Field Marks. Species profiles now highlight the identifiable field marks on the bird itself — the eye-ring, the wing bars, the tail pattern, whatever sets it apart from the lookalikes. We're rolling this out gradually across all 850+ species, starting with the ones that get confused most often.
Why it matters
AI is a great starting point, but a confident ID still comes from the birder. Pairing the AI suggestion with a one-tap jump to the species profile — and the specific marks to look for — keeps you in the loop instead of just trusting the model.
What's next
More species will get Field Marks coverage over the coming weeks. If there's a bird you'd like us to prioritise, let us know.
